It’s always an exciting time to bird watch at Olompali!
Beginning and experienced birders are invited to join leaders Janet Bodle and Rich Cimino of Yellowbilled Tours to view Olompali’s diverse avian residents as we walk the old ranch road to the park's reservoir. Expect to see a wide variety of species who thrive in the park’s oak savanna and open grasslands: raptors, warblers, nuthatches, thrushes and – of course – many woodpeckers. Sharpen your
bird-identification skills, gain a deeper appreciation for our local ecology and have a lot of fun along the way.

Meet at the Olompali Visitor Center at 1:00 pm
Wear layered clothing and bring binoculars, snacks, plenty of water
and a birding field guide if you have one.
Park Entrance Driving Directions: If you are coming from the North on Highway 101, take the Atherton Ave/San Marin Dr exit, turn right at the stop light and follow the signs to the Redwood Blvd. frontage road that leads to the park.
If you are coming from the South on Highway 101, take the Atherton Ave/San Marin Dr exit, turn left at the stop light, cross the overpass and follow the signs to the Redwood Blvd. frontage road that leads to the park.

About Rich Cimino and Janet Bodle:
Eight years ago, while on a docent led naturalist nature walk at Olompali State Historic Park, Janet Bodle and I were requested to lead bird walks for California State Parks at the park. About that same time, we became familiar with the Friends of Olompali, the park’s nonprofit support organization. We expressed our support for the Friends of Olompali and became members. We began leading once a month bird walks in 2013. We are impressed with the park’s cleanliness, the oak trees, old walnut orchard, grasslands, the loop trail, and the native plant garden and the birds that use these plants.
Janet and I are both avid birders. Olompali is a landscape of riparian habitat, hillside oak savanna and open grassland, which are prime habitats for a good number of resident bird species year around.
We are moving back into a routine of quarterly bird walks for 10 birders, and we hope to meet you and other birders on upcoming Bird Walks!
